* Varied from Christina Rosetti’s “Remember”

Remember me when I am gone away.
For many ones from distant lands shall come
With wooing words, your heart its strings to strum,
With compliments and words of love all day.

Though filled with tearful eyes put on display,
They only seek a slave that you’d become;
Their promises, as hollow as a drum,
Will only seek your flesh to use and play.

You know my love for you is good and pure,
But distance can breed doubt and needs are strong,
Thus, lonely hearts cannot resist for long
An offering of comfort in distress.
So, if your love for me cannot endure,
I hope for you enduring happiness.
